IRON FEY SERIES ( THE IRON KNIGHT ) BY JULIE KAGAWA

Ash, former prince of the Winter Court, gave up everything. His title, his home, even his vow of loyalty. All for a girl… and all for nothing.

Unless he can earn a soul.

To cold, emotionless faery prince Ash, love was a weakness for mortals and fools. His own love had died a horrible death, killing any gentler feelings the Winter prince might have had. Or so he thought.

Then Meghan Chase—a half human, half fey slip of a girl— smashed through his barricades, binding him to her irrevocably with his oath to be her knight. And when all of Faery nearly fell to the Iron fey, she severed their bond to save his life. Meghan is now the Iron Queen, ruler of a realm where no Winter or Summer fey can survive.

With the (unwelcome) company of his archrival, Summer Court prankster Puck, and the infuriating cait sith Grimalkin, Ash begins a journey he is bound to see through to its end— a quest to find a way to honor his solemn vow to stand by Meghan’s side.

To survive in the Iron realm, Ash must have a soul and a mortal body. But the tests he must face to earn these things are impossible. At least, no one has ever passed to tell the tale.

And then Ash learns something that changes everything. A truth that turns reality upside down, challenges his darkest beliefs and shows him that, sometimes, it takes more than courage to make the ultimate sacrifice.

For some really strange reason and foolish reason I never picked up the Iron Fey books though the reviews were always great. Maybe the word Iron turned me off. I am weird like that. Then I saw The Iron Knight on Netgalley and before I could say

Hottest Guy Ever

On The Cover

I had requested the book. Of Course now I had to go read the first three books before I could start with The Iron Knight and OMG am I glad I did! BEST.DECISION.EVER.

To those uninitiated in The Iron Fey series let me paint a picture of what these books are all about.

Magic. Humour. Romance. Action. And above all ADVENTURE.

Adventure that is missing in YA books these days.

JKagawa’s imagination and creativity is stupendous. Her writing is vivid and detailed and completely transported me to Nevernever. I was constantly left mesmerized by the sheer beauty of the setting she had created- be it the Wyldwood or Tir Na Nog.

For me The Iron Fey series is The Lord Of The Rings for teens. Lord Of The Rings is a book I famously tried to and could not finish reading. (Okay I am officially hiding my face now! I love the LOTR movies..okay..maybe "love" would be an exaggeration but I did like them...I mean I loved golum and his "my preciousss" and do I even need to mention Orlando Bloom!!Again however I could not finish this book.I read it when I was a kid and all I remember is that there was like A LOT of description of trees. And barely any females. Or for that matter even humans. O.o)

Now I feel like I don’t need to since The Iron Fey is just as awesome and especially tailor-made for me! :D

Iron Fey series also happens to be influenced by my favorite Shakespeare play- A Midsummer Night’s Dream. There’s the CHERRY on top.

Another thing I loved about the series were the different magical creatures. Each of them from trolls to goblins to mermaids to jack o’lanterns played an important role and were well-developed.

While the endearing Meghan Chase was the protagonist for the first 3 books, The Iron Knight is from the point of view of Prince Ash. The Ice Prince. Cold, brooding, dark and absolutely YUMMY. There is also the delightful Puck but I am hard-core TEAM ASH. The Iron Knight gets a new feel, offers glimpses of the past and answers many questions as we get into the mind of the winter prince as he embarks on an EPIC adventure along with Puck and Grimalkin.

Grimalkin- the finest and the best part of The Iron Fey books.

Grimalkin is a CAT and there totally awesome. With his snarkiness and witty one-liners he shows us exaclt why EVERYONE WANTS TO BE A CAT.

Honestly best cat in literature since the Cheshire Cat.

The Iron Fey series is gonna end up right alongside Chronicles Of Narnia, Alice Wonderland and Wizard Of Oz. It is a must read for fans of the faery and just about everyone who loves fantasy.

The ending was unexpected and breath-taking. I don’t wanna divulge the plots too much because it’s always fun discovering that on your own!

  1. This is one of my favorite series, and this book is sitting on my Kindle, but I still haven't read it. Crazy, I know. Glad you enjoyed it. I've read so many incredible things about it!!!

  2. I just got this book from NetGalley (even though I've only read the first book in the series... so I have two to go before I can even touch it). But thank you so much for this review! It's awesome to know that the series gets even better (since I enjoyed the first book, but your review makes this fourth book, and the entire series as a whole, sound absolutely fantastic). I totally agree - it definitely is LotR for teens. (Haha, I couldn't finish the books either, but the films are fantastic.) And I LOVED the Midsummer's Night Dream references in book one, and it's great to know that that's a recurring theme. Ash is obviously my favorite character (I knew I'd love him from the first appearance), and Meghan's an amazing, strong heroine, like the kind that SHOULD exist more often in literature.

I can't wait to read the next three books!

  3. Oh my gosh, I managed to get my hands on an ARC of this one too and I just have to say that it made me love Ash even more! I agree with you one-hundred percent -- Julie's writing paints every scene so beautifully. :)

Grimalkin was just plain amazing. ;)

    Awesome review!

  4. I, too, tried to read LOTR but it was too descriptive for me and not enough dialogue. And like you I LOVED the movies (and Orlando Bloom!) While I've heard of the Iron Fey series, I'll have to admit I didn't have any great interest to read it but.....after reading this review I've changed my mind and am adding it to my TBR list! Thanks for sharing!

  5. I haven't read this series, but you're really making me want to! I LOVE adventure and I agree, it is missing in a lot of YA books right about now. One of my favorite series, Bloody Jack by L.A. Meyer has to be the best I've read when it comes to that. Thanks for the review! I will definitely have to go out and get the first couple books asap!

  8. Oh-my-Ash. I'm totally going to pick up The Iron Knight once it comes out. I haven't even read it, but I'm already swooning over Ash. I think the model in the cover fits the cold, dark, brooding, absolutely yummy, Ice Cold Prince Ash character. Phew! That's one sweet of a character description. Haha. So much love for this series, and I can't believe I haven't heard of it before, until now. And if this is the teen version of Lord of The Rings (loved the movie *coughHotOrlandoBloomcough*, but didn't bother with the books), then I'm all in! Another funny, great review. Looking forward to reading the Fey Series, and thanks for the giveaway opportunity:)

  9. I've only read the first two in this series but I agree that it is full of magic and adventure. Grimalkin is probably my favorite character in this series and I remember thinking as I was reading it that more fae books should have a talking cat.
I had a difficult time staying awake through LOTR too. I can't even stay awake through the movies.

  12. My God, you have no idea how obsessed I am with this series. I'm addicted, honestly. I've read the first three books at least ten times, and I've been trying to get my hands on The Iron Knight for SO LONG -___-

  14. I LOVE this series. Not going to lie to you I thought it was a triology. Cried so hard in the 3rd book and then realized there was more to come. I can not wait to get my hand on Iron Knight. I am a team Ash member lol Grimalkin is amazing but despite everything I think he has a massive soft spot for Meghan lol. Thanks for a wonderful review on this book I am super excited for it!

  15. I've only started the Iron Fey series with The Iron King and I'm hoping to find the time to get started on The Iron Daughter (which I think has the best cover of all four in the series!) but I must admit that it was also my love of A Midsummer Night's Dream that made me pick up The Iron King and since I loved Puck to bits, I was dead set on being different and not joining the ranks of Team Ash but, what can I say?, I'm just your average female who falls for the mysterious, brooding and intense hot guy:) At least he doesn't sparkle *wink*

  17. Seriously, every time I read a review about this book it's about how freaking amazing it is! I have to go out and buy this now. It sounds so great. I love LOTR so if this is just an easier version than yay! Plus, Midsummer Night's Dream is great. And I love fantasy. Ya, I have to get this. Great review!

  18. The Iron Fey series is one of my favorite series of all time. I'm glad you have finally entered Julie Kagawa's world! She really is a fantastic writer and these books are some of the best there are in the YA Fantasy genre. Puck and Grim are my favorite characters, purely for the reason that they make me laugh! :) But I do love Ash, too.

    Great review!

  19. I want to read this series so badly! A lot of my friends have been giving these books rave reviews, and I ADORE A Midsummer Night's Dream(only Shakespeare work I like, true story), so I really want to get ahold of these. But my library doesn't have them and I don't have the money to buy them. Chanukkah, maybe?
But, anyway, I really liked the review. It makes me want to read these even more. :P And: hot guy! Very hot guy!

  21. I am so intrigued by this series 'cause of that guy on the cover. (Yes, I may be that shallow sometimes. Lol.) While faeries are definitely not my supernatural creature of choice, I'm gonna see how good this series is.

  22. After reading this book I have genuine respect for him. He adds the comic relief, but also comes in when a voice of reason. I know, that doesn't sound right for Puck, but when you read it you'll understand! Meghan and other characters add substance to the journey and ensuing trials and tribulations. You will be holding on to this book till the very last page.
