Siren ( Siren #1) By Tricia Rayburn

Vacationing in Winter Harbor, Maine, is a tradition for Vanessa and Justine Sands, and that means spending time with the Carmichael boys. This summer, Vanessa is determined to channel some of her older sister’s boldness, get over her fear of the ocean, and maybe turn her friendship with Simon Carmichael into something much more.

But when Justine goes cliff-diving after a big family argument, and her body washes ashore the next day, Vanessa is sure that it was more than an accident. She is more certain of this, when she discovers that her sister was keeping some big secrets and Caleb Carmichael’s gone missing. Suddenly, the entire oceanfront town is abuzz when a series of grim, water-related accidents occur, with the male victims washed ashore grinning from ear to ear.

Vanessa and Simon team up to figure out if these creepy deaths have anything to do with Justine and Caleb. But will what Vanessa discovers mean the end of her summer romance, or even life as she knows it?

I read Siren before I started blogging so I never came around to posting a review for it.

However, when I mentioned Undercurrent (Siren #2) On My Wishlist #2  I realised that a lot of people had never even heard of Siren! And their response to the summary of Undercurrent was extremely positive.

So I decided to post the review on Siren before I post the Undercurrent review.

Siren captivated me from page 1. Tricia Rayburn’s writing was fluid and soulful. It flowed effortlessly and I was sucked into the story.

The plot was brilliant and mythical sea creatures are like a breath of fresh air in young adult paranormal fiction which is flooded with vampires, witches and fallen angels.

Siren in fact is the first urban fantasy I have given 5 stars!!

The mystery and suspense kept me turning the pages and I also loved how the romance didn’t start out intense and took time to build up. It made it so much more believable.

Vanessa was an amazing protagonist. She was unique and had a lot of emotional depth. I could relate to her at times like when she was scared of things and I guess it made me love her all the more. All the characters were well-developed.

The setting was perfect. Winter Harbor was creepy and alluring at the same time. The entire town was filled with secrets.

One of the best paranormal books I have read.

I was completely swept away. It was pure escapism.

Siren was tantalizing and flawless.

Go read it NOW!

Sea Change By Aimee Friedman

Sixteen-year-old Miranda Merchant is great at science. . .and not so great with boys. After major drama with her boyfriend and (now ex) best friend, she's happy to spend the summer on small, mysterious Selkie Island, helping her mother sort out her late grandmother's estate.

There, Miranda finds new friends and an island with a mysterious, mystical history, presenting her with facts her logical, scientific mind can't make sense of. She also meets Leo, who challenges everything she thought she knew about boys, friendship. . .and reality.

Is Leo hiding something? Or is he something that she never could have imagined?

Best Cover Award!!
You know those books that as soon as you start reading them transport you to a different world. Pure enchanting escapism.
Sea Change was magical. It was mesmerising. Aimee Friedman’s writing is lyrical and beautiful.I could smell the salty air while reading the book.I am still in love with Selkie Island . The setting was fluffy and fun and yet mystery and suspense lingered in the air. Mirando was this science nerd and while usually that is not my main-protagonist types I really liked her. The romance with Leo is what most girls will die for! Its very typical YA paranormal –ish but hey maybe that’s what makes it so awesome! The plot is different and I guess that makes this book fresh .Also Selkie Island. Did I mention the island? I am still waiting for the sequel which is taking forever to come!! Aimee Please I WANT ANOTHER HELPING OF SELKIE ISLAND!! I mean the whole premise was like The OC meets Twilight.

My only problem with the book was it totally INCOMPLETE!Once you read it you shall get why I am ranting for a sequel. And that's the reason it has 0.5 star missing in the rating.

I also scored a book trailer!!

A wonderful and must read summer tale. Read it preferably while sitting at the beach.
