Beastly by Alex Flinn

“I am a beast. A beast. Not quite wolf or bear, gorilla or dog, but a horrible new creature who walks upright – a creature with fangs and claws and hair springing from every pore. I am a monster.”

Eep!Love the Cover!

I love fairy-tales.

I love how awesomely clichéd they are.

When I was 5 my dad had gifted me a Collectibles Barbie As Beauty From the Fairy Tale Beauty and the Beast - Children's Collector's Series 1999.

And I loved this barbie to death so even though beauty and the beast was not my favourite fairytale( that would be A Little Mermaid and Sleeping Beauty) I still have a soft corner for it.

Beastly was an amazing book.I loved every page. It was so contemporary and weirdly enough so realistic!

The best part was chat-room transcripts between the beast and other characters from different fairytales.

So beastly is about Kyle Kingsbury who is super-rich, popular and arrogant. He has everything going for him that is till he insults a witch.

She curses him to live as a beast till her finds a girl who will kiss him.

And we know how the story follows.

This book is a fun and light read.

Skip it if you want something deep and intense.

I highly recommend it to lovers of fairytale retellings and twilight-esque romance.

  1. I love the Beauty and the Beast tale, so I keep thinking I should pick this one up. Maybe I'll see if they have it at my library. Great review!

  2. I love this book. It's not perfect by any means, but it's enchanting and compelling and I still had a blast reading it. And I definitely agree - there's something strangely realistic about this book, and I love that it's a re-imagining of Beauty and the Beast in contemporary times just because that's one of my favorite stories, and my favorite Disney film. I haven't seen the film yet, however (I've heard mixed things about it), but I'll probably eventually watch it just to see what they did with this fun novel.

And lol, that's exactly how I'd describe Alex Pettyfer. Rude but hot. And pretty. Sad he and Dianna Agron aren't dating anymore. They made a gorgeous couple.

  4. I have just finished this book and have to agree. I love "Beauty and the Beast" and the modern version "Beastly" was great. My favourite part was chat-room too, I really enjoy it. I was in such a romantic mood thanks to this book, fairytale for teenagers.

  5. OMG THE MOVIE KILLED IT! I was so upset when I walked out of the theatre! Beastly is seriously so cute and good and awesome, and then the movie just comes along and sucks major booty...urghhhh....*hate glare at directors*

  6. This book was probably one of the first contemporary lit books that I've actually enjoyed. I love how a blind person was a main(ish) character! You don't see that too often, and when you do, it usually happens sometime in the book. Great review!

  7. I just finished reading Beastly today, and it is indeed a fun, light read. I read it for the love of the movie and maybe just a tinny, tiny, crush on Alex Pettyfer. Hehe. Though watching the movie first took some of the fun out of the book, it did help me envision Lindy and Kyle/Adrian's character. As a matter of fact, Alex's voice was the one I kept hearing in my head as Kyle/Adrian narrates in the book. And, yes, one of the best parts about the book is the chat/IM-ing with Beastly and the other characters. Froggie and Grizzlyguy were especially funny. I had fun reading Beastly and will definitely check out other books by Alex Flinn.

Alex and Diana did make a nice couple. Too bad they head straight to Splitsville. I kind of thought they would last longer since they seemed to like each other.

  10. I read this book just last month! And I have to say, the movie was very disappointing, it was nothing like the book. Although, I do like the original better, :L
