A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies

On the night of Skye’s seventeenth birthday, she meets two enigmatic strangers. Complete opposites—like fire and ice—Asher is dark and wild, while Devin is fair and aloof. Their sudden appearance sends Skye’s life into a tailspin. She has no idea what they want, or why they seem to follow her every move—only that their presence coincides with a flurry of strange events. Soon she begins to doubt not just the identity of the two boys, but also the truth about her own past.
In the dead of a bitingly cold Colorado winter, Skye finds herself coming to terms with the impossible secret that threatens to shatter her world. Torn between Asher, who she can’t help falling for, and Devin, who she can’t stay away from, the consequences of Skye’s choice will reach further than the three of them could ever imagine.
A Beautiful Dark is the first book in a captivating trilogy by debut author Jocelyn Davies.

  1. Haha, your breakdown of the characters made me laugh. Though the book sounds a little cliche, and I'll confess, I'm not a fan of love triangles at all (THEY'RE EVERYWHERE IN YA THESE DAYS AND IT IS SO FRUSTRATING), I love the idea of fresh and intriguing angel mythology, and the fact that you found it entertaining definitely adds to its appeal. *adds to to-read list*

  2. Yeah I am not into love triangles and all that encompasses YA paranormal romance a lot either but a majority of the YA fan base do look for it ( why else would they ALL end up bestsellers?) and yeah this book delivers to them!!

  4. So the cover draws me in. I love the "I'm your typical YA protagonist..." It does seem that the falling in love happens quite often. Where's all that stuff for teens in real life? I certainly didn't experience that in high school. You also have yourself a mini-screenplay right there. Forbidden love is typical, but always intriguing. Thanks for making me laugh!

  7. Okay so i love this cover.

Cute way to do a review.

I guess a love triangle is not anything new for a YA book!

    Nice review.

  8. I heart the way you did this review...very original. However, I'm quite surprised that you actually still gave it 3.5/5 because from this review it didn't seem like you liked it much LOL

  9. OMG, I'd but it just because of your peculiar-hilarious review. I loved it!
I'v heard so many things about this book, but most of them are kind of bad. I mean, if it's Ya, we must know that almost evry book's got a similar plot line so I don't mind about the love triangle or in this case, square xD
Again, great review, I need to read it soon! xD

  11. Many kudos to you for writing a review that made me laugh. I love the uniqueness of this review style. The love square thing has me a bit nervous since triangle are already a bit much in books. Thanks for you opinion. I have to think about where to put this on my tbr list now. (-:

  12. Hahah I love the character "interview". Seems great! It's nice to know that there's a new angel mythology in this one...the old mythos is kind of tired...thanks for the review!

  17. LOL! OK, I have to read this one.

"Hey I am your typical YA protagonist. And I cause guys to fall head over heels in love with me." *still laughing*

  18. Bleck. I can't stand love triangles - and I always like the bad boy, so I already know I'd like Asher.

But I honestly don't know how you could give it even three and a half stars. Granted, I've only read the first four chapters or something like that on the HarperTEEN site, but when I realized she had three guys going after her, I was like . . . -_____- WTF is wrong with authors these days. I don't know very many girls with three guys going after them.

  19. The cover is what got my attention with this book to start. It is beautiful!!! Love triangles or squares as this one seems to be are something you either love or hate I think. I tend to go by the book some I like and other annoy me lol I would give this book a go for sure! I liked the character interview. Thank you

  20. Bwahahaha! I totally loved your review and I think you have an amazing sense of humour. A big thumbs up to you! Now I'm adding this one to my to-read list, even if it is a typical YA novel with just one extra love interest *wink*

  21. Bwahahahahaha!!! I love love love this review! It's so damn funny!

And that cover! That gorgeous, gorgeous cover! Part of the reason why I want to read this book is because of the cover itself...

Honestly, I find the whole love, triangle/square business infuriating, but the book is on my to-be-read list anyway, as im a sucker for anything YA and Paranormal.

  22. Ahaha. I've been debating whether or not to pick this one up. I guess it's worth it? Even if it's cliche, if it's a good book, I'll read it.
    Thanks for the review!

  23. I AM SO HAPPY YOU LOVED THE BOOK, TOO! I've read it a couple of weeks ago. IT WAS AMAZING! There was a time I didn't know who to pair Skye with - whether Asher or Devin -; but at the end, I am convinced she MUST be with Asher. Bad boys FTW! :)

  24. Hm... I'm pretty contradicted about this book, I've heard both good and bad reviews. Me? I'm not too sure about love-triangles, don't get me wrong, I don't mind them but when it comes to cheesy overrated stuff...not so much. Although, I am gunna add this to my to-reads list! :D

  25. I loved the characters. Skye is strong and she does NOT go all warm and crazy with one site of Asher, though who could blame her when it comes to Asher. My point is that this is not instant love. Skye has a history of being hurt. She is cautious when it comes to the heart. She stands strong against their attention trying to figure out what she feels. I admire that about her. She has certainly had more than her fair share of sadness in her life and she has clearly grown from it.
