Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) by Sarah Mlynowski

2 girls + 3 guys + 1 house – parents = 10 things April and her friends did that they (definitely, maybe, probably) shouldn't have.
If given the opportunity, what sixteen-year-old wouldn't jump at the chance to move in with a friend and live parent-free? Although maybe "opportunity" isn't the right word, since April had to tell her dad a tiny little untruth to make it happen (see #1: "Lied to Our Parents"). But she and her housemate Vi are totally responsible and able to take care of themselves. How they ended up "Skipping School" (#3), "Throwing a Crazy Party" (#8), "Buying a Hot Tub" (#4), and, um, "Harboring a Fugitive" (#7) at all is kind of a mystery to them.
In this hilarious and bittersweet tale, Sarah Mlynowski mines the heart and mind of a girl on her own for the first time. To get through the year, April will have to juggle a love triangle, learn to do her own laundry, and accept that her carefully constructed world just might be falling apart . . . one thing-she-shouldn't-have-done at a time.

Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)
Partyin’, partyin’ (Yeah)

Fun, fun, fun, fun

FANTABULOUS BOOK!

HOW PRETTY IS THE COVER!?
I needz that GIRL’S SKIN! SO FLAWLESS AND IT’S POSITIVELY GLOWING!

So now on to the book?

Well the blurb pretty much sums it up!

The book makes me wanna

1)move into my own apartment
2)sip on a bucketful of ALCOHOL!!
3) Slip into those pretty tiny shiny clothes.
4) BUY A FREAKING HOT TUB
5) And PARTYYY!!

And then very slowly and in the same tone the book also made me want to be responsible.

Also, the way romance was handled in this book made me wanna go KISS the author!
I mean THANK GOD there is a book out there telling us teens ( I am 19..Still a teen right!? Look Nine-“teen”) THE BRUTAL TRUTH in a completely hilarious way. Such an honest take on teenage love!

Packed into this seemingly innocent book are tons of invaluable life lessons. It captures perfectly through the voice of the protagonist the teenage feelings of wanting to grow-up and yet not wanting it at the same time? I am making sense here!? It’s like we want to spread our wings and fly but we also want to make sure someone is out there still watching out for us! Hard to explain. JUST GO READ THE BOOK!

This book goes kind of like these lyrics by a certain band I am never very fond of but Geez CAN ONE PARTY TO THAT SONG!
“Tonight's the night
Let's live it up
I got my money
Let's spend it up
Go out and smash it
Like Oh My God
Jump off that sofa
Let's get get OFF “

This is a book without any decorations and jazz. It’s plain, simple, crisp, blunt and OMFG wonderful!
Light and funny with believable characters and a scarily realistic plot this is a must read for all teens!

Wanna win this fab book?

  6. I've been debating whether I should grab this book or not. The cover is great but I can't handle too much sex in my books, so the title makes it an iffy choice. But your review made me want to read it.
I have heard that the writing is great.
I think I just might pick it up.
    Thanks

  12. Great review! I could certainly use a book like this right now. I can completely relate to the teenage feeling of wanting to spread your wings but also wanting someone to be there to catch you in case you fall. Although, I'm not sure whether I exactly count as a teenager....
